Aside from high impact, the most likely reason will be over-loading the bayonet in addition to the over pressure valve actuating. Pumping too fast and/or too hard could also cause damage. Each stroke of the piston should be slow and controlled (no more than 10-12kg downforce is required). If in doubt, test downforce on a set of scales). It is strongly advised that the below information is viewed to prevent this happening again in the future. The over pressure valve actuation is a physical and audible warning that the pump rate must be reduced to prevent over loading the portafilter/bayonets.
